The Jack Eccles-designed 18-hole South Head golf course lies on gently rolling terrain and features spectacular views of the Kaipara Harbour.

Beginning life in the early 1960s as a nine-hole course on nearby farmland, the club relocated to its present site in 1970 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013.

Because the course’s sand base allows for excellent drainage, it has developed a reputation as one of greater Auckland’s finest all-weather courses. Its year-round playability is a testament to the work put in by the club’s dedicated greens staff and volunteers.

Kikuyu grassed and sculptured fairways and manicured greens make this course increasingly sought after by golfers keen to enjoy a leisurely walk and challenge.

The picturesque setting is benefiting from extensive and ongoing native tree planting, as the original pine and macrocarpa trees are selectively removed. And while the course remains true to the original design, the club has a proud record of development and improvements – from clubhouse extensions and concrete paths to fairway enhancement and closely mown pathways from greens to tees to fairways.

South Head members are well known for their warmth and hospitality both on and off the course. Visitors are always welcome, with clubs, carts and trundlers for hire, and free smiles are always available from office, kitchen and bar staff.
